Gardening As Ministry

I harvested HDS garden greens and peas this week for Faith Kitchen in Cambridge, MA, and traveled by bike to Fatih Lutheran Church to help make the enormous salads that were part of this week’s community meal, along with meatloaf, potatoes, corn, strawberries, brownies and ice cream, and beautiful artisan breads. I’m not new to picking produce and turning it into food for my family and friends, but there was something especially moving about chopping up the chard and kale and tossing it into the big metal bowls, then seeing it served to the 40 or so guests who had come for a meal and conversation.
