My summer job is to look after the Harvard Divinity School vegetable garden. I couldn’t ask for a more heavenly appointment. The garden is an HDS Ministry initiative where we grow fresh organic produce that is incorporated twice a month into the community meals served by Faith Kitchen in Cambridge. The greatest gift of the garden so far has been to witness the joy and amazement of people who for the first time in their lives have the chance to plant a seed, or nestle a seedling into the earth. The garden will be food for thought for a new writing project titled “The Animate Garden,” exploring spiritual aspects of human relationships with the natural world.
